Many years ago now, my nephew – then eight, took me along on the Big Day – a 24 hour birding competition,  celebration, and general extravaganza held annually in New Jersey.   I was hooked.   I had always loved the outdoors and been involved in outdoor sports – but this was different:  you got to stop, look, and listen – that was the whole point.

I started keeping lists any birder does, but I also started to keep a nature journal to remember special moments, interspersing random thoughts and other life events along the way.

I haven’t kept the journal for several years now and I don’t bird as much as I would like. But my husband and I love to walk and watch as we walk.   We have finally consolidated our lives to live between two rivers, close to the Jersey shore – a perfect place to do just that.   So I’m starting this blog as a way to resume my journal for myself,  figure out how blogging works, and share what we see along two rivers for whoever might be interested.
